Even in Our Darkness, God is in Control

Ezra 1:1-4

Today we begin a series in the book of Ezra. This book is often neglected because it contains long lists and detailed inventories, and it describes a time far removed from ours. But this book sets forth one clear theme: God’s people can experience spiritual renewal after a season of pain. As we begin the series, we start with our worldview. If we are going to encounter spiritual renewal, especially after a season of pain, we must have a healthy conviction about sovereignty of God. He is not only kind and good, but he rules over all. Only when we embrace this can we actively pursue genuine spiritual renewal.
